Art History Discussion: Raphael's Expulsion of Heliodorus

There is a violation of renaissance ideas, with a man grasping onto a column with unreal proportions.

Pope Julius the second drawn to have witnessed the biblical event being portrayed.

A priest is portrayed praying, in a non-symmetrical fashion.

Raphael is turning his back on Italian High Renaissance ideas.

In this and in his piece Fire in the Borgos, he stops using one point perspective, and geometry, while portraying miracles.

In his piece The Transfiguration, he once again denies geometry, beautiful colors, and one point perspective, in order to portray that the world is not perfect, but miracles do happen.

He is making the statement that Renaissance ideas of Christianity are improper.
